Connecting the community with chemistry
ACS Monthly Meetings are going VIRTUAL!!
Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 pm, the ACS C-P Section will hold its first ever virtual meeting. Please plan to join us to hear Dr. Brent Dixon, Laboratory Director at Carolina BioOncology Institute.
Title: Coronavirus: Perspectives from a Diagnostic and Research Laboratory on COVID-19
Abstract: The 2020 Coronavirus pandemic has made a global impact on everyday life, shifting work arrangements to remote where possible, affecting schedules and educational platforms. The diagnostic laboratory space has been impacted due to “virtual care” visits and lower patient volume for non-COVID-19 encounters. Research in the biomedical space has pivoted towards SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 in the race to create an effective vaccine. This presentation will review the virus epidemiology, mode of transmission, immune response, testing, challenges and hopes for a vaccine.
Brent will bring a unique and well-informed perspective to this topic, having been Director of the Public Health Laboratory at SC DHEC prior to his current position. There is no cost for the meeting, however registration will be required.
